Database Administrator (DBA)

Description

This position is responsible for the development, design, implementation and maintenance of multiple Microsoft SQL Server databases residing in production, development, test and UAT environments that are an integral part of mission critical state-of-the-art Microsoft Web Applications.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Two capacities - is responsible for both production RDBMS support and as a key contributor/member of the design and development team.
  • Creation and maintenance or logical and physical data models.
  • The DBA will interact with architects, IT management and developers to provide world-class design solutions for complex problems and issues.
  • Firm understanding of all architectural and detailed data design aspects of our WEB-based accounting system.
  • Acts as a single point of contact for the development team in terms of database support.
  • Expert in guiding the developers in database platform and design, recommending database design alternatives and participate in design reviews.
  • Development, test and implementation of code in DTS and SQL.
  • Normal DBA duties in maintaining working data in production, development and QA environments.
  • Development of Ad-Hoc SQL Server 2000 queries, procedures to support developer and tester needs and prototyping.
  • Development and maintenance of system data models, core DB packaging/builds and all associated SQL-based components.
  • Participate in code review of stored procedures, data design and modeling.
  • Good team player able to work in small highly focused, customer-driven team; Enjoys and thrives on working in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work independently when required. 

Required Skills:

  • Minimum 7 years direct, hands-on design and maintenance experience with ALL functional aspects of Microsoft SQL Server - building and maintaining highly scalable and fault tolerant database systems in a Microsoft environment.
  • Experience with accounting systems in a Financial Services environment is a plus.
  • In-depth SQL Server administration experience at the enterprise level.
  • Applicable knowledge of server hardware, disk subsystems, networking and distributed databases, OLTP, Replication, dimensional modeling, stored procedure development and testing experience.
  • Strong skills in
    • T-SQL, DTS, ETL, scripting, job scheduling, sript packaging
    • ESQL, BCP, Profiler and Performance Monitor
    • ALL facets of operational RDBMS maintenance and monitoring
    • Extensive scalability knowledge (i.e. clustering), manage backups and restores.
    • Database tuning, data backup, recovery and security processes/procedures
  • Strong communication, collaboration and documentation skills is required.
  • Experience with Visual Source Safe (VSS) for version control.
  • Experience with ERWIN, DBArtisan for data modeling and system design is a plus.
  • Microsoft .Net Experience is a plus.
  • Must be willing to work occasional extended days and weekends.
  • Bachelors Degree in Computer Science.
